Gen Y or Millennials (whatever you want to call us) are rapidly moving into the workforce and employers find themselves changing the way they recruit. After all, we are considered a “go-getter” generation and a survey recently showed that 96% of us said “If I work hard, I can achieve my goals.” Yes, we actually have goals and if your company can’t help me achieve them we will seek employment elsewhere.
I think one thing that is often overlooked when recruiting Gen Y talent is their commitment to community service. I recently read that 50% of all Millennial professionals volunteered for a community service in high school and 44% of Millennials have participated in a community or charitable activity in the past 12 months. It’s no wonder Barack Obama has laid out a plan to give a $4,000 college tuition credit to student volunteers. Do you think this recruiting effort will work with Gen Y? Well, take a look at this:
